Gone from this world but still in our hearts

  Zen

My very first Akita.  He was a present to myself for successfully finishing my first year of veterinary school.  He quickly taught me how very little I knew about dogs and dog behavior and started my lifelong interest in behavior and learning.  He was the strong silent type who keep harmony in the dogs at home and watched over us.  He hung out at vet school and at my first job out of veterinary school.  He introduced me to the world of Akitas and started my current "addiction" to this wonderful breed!  1997-2007

Inori

Inori was a present to me from a wonderful Akita breeder named Fran Cox.  I lost my Labrador of 13 years in October 2000 and she offered me one of her pups.  New Years Eve 2000 a little Akita girl joined my household and my world was never the same.  Some dogs are just born smart and with sense, and she was one of those dogs.  She took very little training to do obedience and agility.  She went to work with me everyday - hanging out in the corner of the exam room no matter what chaos was going on.  She was a certified therapy dog and my heart.  She set the bar for every Akita after her.   2000-2013

Guinevere

I grew up with Labradors and they will always hold a special place in my heart.  Guinevere and Zen were the best of friends.  She was a true Labrador and loved to swim and to retrieve.  I wish dock diving had been a canine sport when she was still alive because she could clear quite a distance jumping into the water.  She did obedience and agility and help raised many of foster pups and a few resident pups like Inori and Toki.    1996-2011
